THE FAIR
Upfor debuts in Mexico City at the fifth edition of Material Art Fair with a solo booth of work by Los Angeles-based Chilean artist Rodrigo Valenzuela. New work draws on two recent series: New Land and Sense of Place. These overpainted, photocopied enlargements of desert images blend landscapes from Joshua Tree National Park and Chile's Atacama Desert. "Using a multi-step photocopying process," Anna Furman writes for Hyperallergic, "Valenzuela projects abstract lines onto unpeopled desert scenes — hinting at houses, governmental offices, and memorial structures yet to be built."
